Small Footprint
The Challenge
Small Footprint, a software development agency out of Winston-Salem, NC had secured a booth at a major technology conference and wanted to stand out and capture leads and followers. Their ambition for the conference was to share the culture of DevOps that had become integral to their brand, conveying their deep expertise in this practice of software development.
Our Solution
Common Giant sought to develop an interactive booth experience that could capture lead information. After examining the target audience - software developers in their 30s and 40s - we set out to test their knowledge of DevOps. We created an interactive logic quiz inspired by the “Choose Your Own Adventure” books of the 1980s and 90s to conjure a sense of nostalgia for the demographic.
The questions tested users' DevOps skills in the context of a fantasy world crisis. Different responses triggered different outcomes. In the end, users received a score accompanied by a whimsical character onscreen and via email.
The Result
A lengthy line formed around the kiosk and by day’s end they were the most talked about display in the whole conference, even taking home the “Most Unique Booth” superlative at the conference’s end.
The quiz successfully captured the lead information Small Footprint was after. They expanded their database by over one hundred individuals, far more than the one-to-two dozen names that a typical sign-up sheet draws.
The success of the highly customized booth proved the value of interactive branding. By offering conferencegoers a unique experience that spoke to their interest in adventure games and DevOps, Small Footprint engaged with audiences at a significantly higher rate than the average booth. Offering a fun, interactive brand experience boosts brand equity and builds connection.
