Rockin’ the Runway in 2014

Phillip Oakley

On February 21st, 7 designers showcased fashions redrafted from materials found in Triad Goodwill stores. We took some time out of our schedules to have a fun night on the town. For Triad Goodwill’s Fifth Annual Rock The Runway, the theme was “Recrafted,” and it did not lack in excitement. All seven designers featured fashions inspired from the 40s, 70s, as well as couture designs. The clothing designs were amazing, but the outfits resulting from News and Record’s Unconventional Materials challenge were quite impressive and wowed the crowd. Nhi Tran, the winning designer walked away for a $1000 award for her collection. Outfits made by the designers were auctioned off as well. After the show, attendees were welcome to drinks, dancing, and shopping at Willow’s Boutique, where the best of the best pieces from all 22 Goodwill stores in the Triad were gathered for people to peruse and purchase.

While watching the show it was amazing to see the change from the early planning meetings with the marketing team at Goodwill to the finished show. It’s exciting to give back to our community. Proceeds from Rock the Runway helps Triad Goodwill’s mission of putting people back to work by helping to provide the necessary tools for success. Anytime there is an opportunity to be a force of good, you’ll most likely find us there.
